Call out: Trans Pride Writing Residency 2019
Hosted by The Marlborough Theatre, New Writing South, The Centre for the Study of Sexual Dissidence at the University of Sussex and Trans Pride Brighton
Supported by Arts Council England
Dates: Mon 15th July – Sun 21st July 2019
Based at: The Marlborough Theatre
Fee: £700 plus travel expenses (accommodation can be provided on site if required)
We are looking for a writer to take up residence in Brighton during Trans Pride, one of the most vibrant weeks of the year in our city. The selected writer will be based at the beating heart of Brighton’s LGBTQ+ community, The Marlborough Pub & Theatre. We hope to find a writer who will find this context inspiring and respond imaginatively to our diverse community.
We invite writers to respond to the performances and events taking place across the Trans Pride week in whatever format they desire. You might be a poet, fiction writer, essayist or memoirist: what we are interested in is innovative, engaging writing that captures the spirit of the week. Perhaps you will publish your writing as a blog, a zine, a collection of poems or through some other written medium – if you have an idea, we’d love to hear it.
Last year we held our first Trans Pride Writing Residency, which included a poetry on demand service, a poetry writing workshop and a spoken word night. The writer in residence is not required to run any activities during their residency, but we are open to hearing applicants’ ideas for such events.
Due to the nature of the opportunity, we are only inviting applications from writers who fall under the trans, non-binary, intersex and gender variant umbrella.
To apply please fill out the application form here: http://bit.ly/tpwritingresidency
If you would prefer to apply in a different format or would like us to make reasonable adjustments to submit your application, please email email@example.com.
Deadline: Friday 31st May at 5pm.
The successful candidate will be selected by representatives from The Marlborough Theatre, New Writing South, Trans Pride Brighton and the Centre for the Study of Sexual Dissidence. Unfortunately we are unable to give feedback on unsuccessful applications.
