We have some exciting news for young LGBTQ+ people who want to get involved with Queer in Brighton, gain some skills, and learn about heritage!

Want to get involved in a creative skills and training programme for young people from the Greater Brighton area exploring LGBTQ+ history?

You can now take part in our series of bimonthly workshops, meet artists and heritage professionals, learn about the rich LGBTQ+ History of the south, and make things. 

You can come to one or all of the sessions, according to your taste and interest.

19th June
Cut and Paste: Making art with archives 
Looking at how artists have worked with archives with a focus on zine making. How do we bring archives back to life, how can we use archival material in our art practice.
3rd July
See me now: Queer Self portraits 
Discussing photographic representations or lack of in archives we will create our own self-portraits using film photography.
17th July
Put your hands around a memory; Archiving 101 
Join guest speakers and museum professionals as we talk about the history and practices of archives.
31st July
Queer self-preservation – Reinventing the archive 
Looking at community archiving practices we will discover how the queer community has organised to preserve its history. We will think about how this could be done in the future, what will digital archiving mean for our community, and how do we create our own archives practices.


August and September sessions to be announced.


The sessions will take place at 6:30-8:30pm at the Young People’s Centre –  69 Ship Street, Brighton, BN1 1AE.
