Anne Lister (1791-1840)
Where truth meets fiction

Brighton LGBTQ+ History Club moves to the Jubilee Library for a special one off event.

Writing South and LGBTQ+ History Club are proud to welcome Clara Barley, author of Anne Lister of Shibden Hall and her new novel The Moss House (released 14th July) to Jubilee Library for this one-off History Club event.

Join us to hear how the real Anne Lister has been in and out of the closet over the last two centuries and how she’s been portrayed in print, radio and television, including the recent BBC series Gentleman Jack.

Followed by a Q&A and book signing.

Clara has written fiction and non-fiction for publication, online, theatre and museums and is an avid researcher and enthusiast for sharing women’s stories from history. She works at Anne’s
home of Shibden Hall in Halifax, West Yorkshire and also appears in Gentleman Jack as Mrs Watson, Mariana’s lady’s maid.

Wednesday 31st of July. 6:00pm. Jubilee Library.

This is a free ticketed event.
